Living ROI Transcript: Workshop 1 – Begin Your Practice
Welcome to the Living ROI Workshop Series! I’m so excited you are taking the time to prepare to live your best life.
With a Weekly Guide for Soulful Living Journal as your path, this series is designed to support you as you build a more meaningful life.
Let’s get started – your life is waiting!
The first part of the journal is about setting the stage for your soulful life. As you begin to work on your journal – there are some tips I’ve found that are helpful:
Don’t worry about being perfect. Your answers will likely evolve over time – just put what comes to mind today. Find a comfortable space to work, I’ve created this area right here in my own home. You may find it helpful to work outside of your home, away from potential distractions. It’s different for everyone. And…Give yourself some time. Let’s jump in!
Purpose is about how you want to impact the world. Your purpose will serve as a guidepost as you navigate through challenging situations and life decisions.
This can be as straight forward as helping your children grow up to be their very best. Or, maybe more global, such as “to help people in need.” I’d love to have you share your purpose with the Living ROI community in the comments.
I’m reminded of Oprah’s quote here – “I was once afraid of people saying ‘Who does she think she is?’ Now I have the courage to stand and say, ‘This is who I am.’ Yes! That is exactly what the “About Me” section is all about. Stand up and say who you are.
In defining your identity, ask yourself – How do I see myself in the world? What do I stand for? It can be an expression of your relationships, or your profession, your spirituality or your aspirations. This sense of identity is a touchstone that you can return to. This is who I am. This is what I stand for in the world.
When things in life don’t go as planned, your code of conduct is more important than ever. It’s your guardrails keeping you on your path, and in integrity, despite obstacles and challenges. This is the line that you don’t cross. What are the standards you hold yourself to that are impervious to conditions in your life? Your code of conduct is an expression of your deepest values.
I remember my father talking about treating people with respect, regardless of their position. He said the CEO and the janitor deserve the same level of respect. That was an important code of conduct that he passed on to me.
What do you really care about? Values come from your family of origin, your experiences in life and the people you surround yourself with. By declaring your values, you are further ensuring alignment between your actions and what’s most important to you.
As you prepare to define your vision and goals, it can be very helpful to get clear about what isn’t working in your life today.
Another powerful question to contemplate is “What would you do if you only had 6 months to live.” This really cuts through to what’s important to you in life and whose important to you. The elements you define here, will be incorporated into your vision and goals.
As you fill out these pages, you are putting a stake in the ground for your soulful life. This is who you are and what matters to you.
Next, we’re going to talk about the beautiful life you want to build. Don’t miss it!
