I created Living ROI as a passion, to share my experiences and support others who want to live more authentic, joyful and fulfilling lives.
Dear Friends,
I’m writing this short newsletter on Wednesday night. Tomorrow morning, I have surgery. I didn’t know until today that I would have surgery tomorrow. I’m grateful for that. What good is there to thinking about it a lot in advance?
I knew I’d likely need surgery when I found myself in the ER on Sunday morning in excruciating pain. The cyst they discovered got twisted when I did yoga on Saturday, causing the acute pain.
Once it became clear I would be having major surgery (they’re going to take care of a few things while they’re in there), I reached out to my team to let them know what was going on. It’s our culture to support each other to take care of ourselves over everything; because, without our health, what do we have?
My team has been spectacular as I knew they would be. They are seamlessly moving forward without me. One of my greatest accomplishments has been to learn to take care of myself and model that, and support it, for my company and my family. During this adventure I’m also going to model taking the time I need to really heal before trying to jump back into regular life.
Another stretch for me is to let people help me. I’m going to need it, and my dear friends and family are rising to the occasion. Especially my husband! I’m used to being the one who has it all together. The one who helps others but doesn’t need help herself. What a great opportunity I’m being given to stretch this muscle of graciously accepting support when I need it.
This year my body has been asking for my attention. I’m listening. I know it’s all part of the arc of my life and will serve a fine purpose.
By the time you read this, I will be well on my way to recovery. I may still be in the hospital but will be heading home soon!
As I recover, I know I will have a renewed sense of gratitude for the health we sometimes take for granted.
Wishing you abundant wellness!

Dear Barbara,
I appreciate your encouraging work. Please know I will be praying for you.
Staying grateful during this time, and always, is your most powerful weapon. This is something you already know of course. 🤗
