I created Living ROI as a passion, to share my experiences and support others who want to live more authentic, joyful and fulfilling lives.

Dear Friends,

I’m in Yosemite with my daughters Marina and Emerald and Emerald’s boyfriend, Max. I was so proud of myself on Saturday morning as we left the house and I decided not to bring my computer. I completely overlooked the fact that I needed it to write my newsletter. Alas, I didn’t need it. Like so many things in life today, I can do it on my phone (in a pinch).

Coming to Yosemite before Christmas has become a tradition. It is so satisfying to be in this quiet refuge in the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle.

As we drove into Yosemite yesterday, we witnessed the acres of scorched trees from this summer’s fires. In addition to the fire-ravaged landscape, there are thousands of dead trees from years of drought and rising temperatures that have lead to unprecedented levels of tree mortality.

In addition to the environmental changes, Yosemite is impacted by the current government shutdown. Thankfully Yosemite’s concessioner, Aramark, continues to run lodging and food services so our tradition can live on.

Despite the disruptions, we are still enjoying the simple pleasures—a game of gin rummy in front of the fire, singing Christmas songs, playing in the snow at Badger Pass and appreciating the beauty that is all around us.

Wishing you and your loved ones joy in the simple pleasures during this holiday season!
