To saunter means to walk in a slow, relaxed manner, without hurry or effort. Doesn’t that sound delightful? Have you had a chance to saunter lately?

Sauntering in nature is my goal this summer, along with some writing and time on and in the lake with family and friends. It is a privilege to choose a summer of sauntering; and it’s also a choice. I could have done a lot more sauntering in my life if I chose to, but instead I have consistently chosen to stay busy, busy, busy. It will be a challenge for me to truly gear down my gait to a saunter.

I love how John Muir talks about the value and meaning of sauntering:

Last summer I spent months renovating a small, off-the-grid, 1930s cabin on a lake near my primary mountain home. Through it all, I was working, working, working. This summer, I’m going to enjoy the fruits of my labor and stay off-the-grid myself for the most part from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

This will be my last blog until the first Sunday after Labor Day in September. I’m excited to see what happens in the wide-open space I am creating. I’ll let you know when I’m back!

In the meantime, have a lovely summer!!!
