This morning I played pickleball. So much fun! This sport has reintroduced me to the joy of play. I feel like a kid on a recess break during school. In fact, I am taking a pickleball class right now at the local community college and I slip away from work for an hour, two days a week, right in the middle of the day. It is glorious.
Haven’t heard of pickleball? Well, it’s a hybrid of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and it’s the fastest-growing sport in America. It was actually invented in the 1960s in Washington state by parents trying to create some summer fun for their kids. According to one of the inventors, Barney McCallum, the name comes from his dog Pickles who would chase the ball and run off with it.
If you haven’t tried pickleball, I recommend you give it a go. It’s relatively easy for beginners to learn and is social and friendly in nature.
If not pickleball, then find some other way to play. Check out this article: Adults Need Play – 10 Ways to Have More Fun and Play More as an Adult.
