I created Living ROI as a passion, to share my experiences and support others who want to live more authentic, joyful and fulfilling lives.

I have been hyper-focused on productivity in my life. Some of my favorite productivity books are:

I’ve read them many times, and a dozen or more other books on this topic as well. I really enjoy getting stuff done. Not being productive is harder for me, and I need to remind myself of the value of down time.

Yesterday I had plans for a very busy day. I was pushing myself, as I often do. In the afternoon I spoke with my husband who is out of town and he said, “Why don’t you rest for a change. It will be good for you.” I took it to heart, and it was such a relief!

I grocery shopped leisurely. Instead of cooking, I picked up a healthy dinner. I took a hot tub, talked with one of my sisters on the phone for a long time and then watched four episodes of a miniseries. I went to bed late, slept in and skipped my usual morning routine. I even spent time playing solitaire, backgammon and Sudoku on my phone!

How do I feel? A little indulgent but relaxed and grateful for the much-needed downtime.

This afternoon I’m going to get back to my list, my errands, tying up loose ends from last week and prepping for next week.

My “lazy” 24 hours were a success because I let myself enjoy it. I really set everything aside, took a few things completely off my plate, and let myself be.

Because of it, I know I will be more refreshed and engaged this week than I would have been.

What does a lazy day look like for you? Have you had one recently?

With encouragement to slow down every now and then,
